NAMI Basics News

We start spring 2016 with completely revised manuals for teachers and participants. A great deal of the content has been updated, including research material and resources. NAMI NJ has purchased both manuals. If you are planning a class, contact Carol McGough for updated manuals. We will utilize the new materials in classes in Mercer, Morris and Sussex this spring. As NAMI Bergen re-energizes, we are discussing a class there - look for one soon. Basics teachers and affiliate leaders are busy developing a new NAMI NJ program focusing on Transition. Our annual spring seminar will discuss Transition as well. We have an impressive lineup of professionals from around the state. See Flyer.
Children's Mental Health News

The February 14, 2014, issue of Newsweek provides a compelling picture of mental health services on America's college campuses. Using case studies of specific students, the article describes services that run the gamut from successful to "flunking." From 2000 to 2012 the numbers of students seeking counseling for severe psychological problems grew from 16% to 32% of the population. This increase accounted for some of the "flunking" services. Those students who felt supported all reported that they did not feel punished by their college/university.
