NAMI NEW JERSEY is a statewide non profit organization
dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families
who are affected by mental illness.
NAMI NEW JERSEY provides education, support and systems
advocacy to empower families and persons with mental illness.
Affiliate self-help and grassroots advocacy groups located in each
county offer emotional support and information about treatment
and community resources.

On a local, state and national level, NAMI provides education
and confronts discrimination through awareness campaigns.

a state and local level, NAMI NJ promotes and supports legislative
issues that benefit families and persons affected by serious
mental illness, monitors governmental agencies responsible
for the provision of services and promotes research into the
causes and treatment of mental illness.

NAMI NEW JERSEY advocates to support, advance and defend the
rights of persons with mental illness and their families.
To accomplish these goals NAMI NEW JERSEY has a number of
committees that meet to discuss issues and recommend action.

Bylaws Committee
Reviews the governing rules of NAMI NEW JERSEY as provided
in the Bylaws. Recommends changes, amendments or modifications.
Receives and reviews bylaw changes in terms of legality, clarity
of intent and the organizational mission. Oversees the presentation
of proposed bylaws for balloting purposes, tabulating, and
ruling on eligibility.

Executive Committee
Have general charge of affairs and the power to act between
Board meetings in matters that require an immediate decision.
Functions in accordance with Board policy. Serves as a planning
committee and develops the Board agenda. Reports actions to
the Board. Members include the president, vice-presidents,
secretary and treasurer.

Finance Committee
Oversees all bookkeeping and other financial reports.
Recommends depositories and investment practices. Reviews
the budget process and modifications. Develops reimbursement
policies. Make recommendations to the Board regarding fiscal
and budgetary matters. Committee chaired by the treasurer.

Legislative Committee
Advocates and promotes new and revision of existing, state
and federal legislation. Develops strategies to promote NAMI
NEW JERSEY's position on legislation. Educates government
on health, social, vocational and housing needs. Make recommendations
to the Board.

Nominating Committee
Functions to seek candidates and assess their qualifications.
Provide information re: trustee's role and meet candidates.
Oversee the preparation of the candidate's biographical statement,
ballot preparation, mailing and tabulation. Presents a slate
of Officers of the Board at the annual Board Reorganization
evaluation.

Program Committee
Plans regular and special NAMI NEW JERSEY programs. Make arrangements
for the Recognition & Awards Event and the Annual Conference.
Recommends cost and budget for functions. Oversees selecting
speakers, award recipients, facilities, invitations, printing,
registrations, etc. Make recommendations to the Board.

Public Policy Committee
Advocates and develops public policy positions. Monitors institutional
and community services; DMHS policies, activities, and budgets;
and other state agencies pertaining to mental illness. Oversees
all public and private sector issues regarding treatment,
staffing, programming, funding, housing, rehab, etc. Make
recommendations to the Board.
