  NIMH Genetic Study of Schizophrenia I

The Schizophrenia Research Program at the National Institute of Mental Health located at on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland is seeking healthy adults diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder (depressed type) to participate in a two-day outpatient study. Travel and lodging assistance is provided and a stipend is also given to participants. This study seeks to identify the genetic and environmental factors that increase the risk of developing schizophrenia. The procedures include confidential interviews and a blood draw, a neurological exam and neuropsychological testing, neuroimaging, and recordings of eye movements and brain waves. Siblings are also invited to participate in these procedures and parents are invited to give a sample of blood if possible.   NIMH seeks volunteers for 6-month Schizophrenia Study

The Schizophrenia Research Program at the National Institute of Mental Health specializes in the field of schizophrenia and is conducting a six-month inpatient research study of the neurobiological causes of schizophrenia at the National Institutes of Health, a pre-eminent research facility, in Bethesda, Maryland. The program involves extensive psychological, psychiatric, neurological, and medical evaluations, and neuroimaging. Study participation involves a period of time without medications. Throughout their stay in the research program, participants receive expert, personalized care, and are encouraged to participate in the clinical milieu that provides educational programs, recreational and occupational therapy, art and music therapies. Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 55, be diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, and be free of significant medical/neurological illnesses and active substance abuse.   Schlesinger Associates, a national marketing research company, is conducting a study among parents and caregivers of children diagnosed with ADHD 7-17 years old and are current or previous users of the drug VYVANSE. Participation in this research means attending a 45-minute interview on Friday, November 9th or November 21st at our office located in mid-town Manhattan. Participants in the study will receive $150 check honorarium for their time and opinions. *PLEASE NOTE*, NO ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE TO SELL ANYTHING, this is for research purposes ONLY.   Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Division of Addiction Psychiatry, is currently recruiting volunteers for a 3-day research study that is to see if there are differences in ways that different groups of people smoke cigarettes and their nicotine intake. The study is conducted at 317 George Street (New Brunswick) facility. If you are a healthy adult or have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and are between ages 18 and 70 and you smoke, you may quality for participate in this study.   Mental Health First Aid Guidelines Project for Eating Disorders

  Investigational Medication Research Study for "Negative" Symptoms of Schizophrenia

The "negative" symptoms of schizophrenia include lack of motivation and interest, impaired concentration, memory and other thinking abilities, limited social functioning, and poor basic living skills. These symptoms are not helped much by the available treatments for schizophrenia.

Psychopharmacology Research of Princeton is one of 70 sites conducting a Sanofi-Aventis research study evaluating an investigational medicine for these "negative" symptoms. Subjects can continue on their standard medicine [if it is olanzapine (Zyprexa), risperidone (Risperdal), Risperdal Consta, paliperidone (Invega), quetiapine (Seroquel), or aripiprazole (Abilify)], throughout the 8 month study. They can also continue in their regular psychotherapy and other treatment, and on most other psychiatric medications.

Subjects will receive medical and psychological testing, and reimbursement of $100/visit for each of the 18 visits (a maximum of $1800). Transportation to Princeton can be arranged. For information call Carol at 1-800-770-9299.
