Investigational
Medication Research Study for "Negative" Symptoms
of Schizophrenia
The "negative" symptoms of schizophrenia
include lack of motivation and interest, impaired concentration,
memory and other thinking abilities, limited social
functioning, and poor basic living skills. These symptoms
are not helped much by the available treatments for
schizophrenia.
Psychopharmacology Research of Princeton is one of
70 sites conducting a Sanofi-Aventis research study
evaluating an investigational medicine for these "negative"
symptoms. Subjects can continue on their standard medicine
[if it is olanzapine (Zyprexa), risperidone (Risperdal),
Risperdal Consta, paliperidone (Invega), quetiapine
(Seroquel), or aripiprazole (Abilify)], throughout the
8 month study. They can also continue in their regular
psychotherapy and other treatment, and on most other
psychiatric medications.
Subjects will receive medical and psychological testing,
and reimbursement of $100/visit for each of the 18 visits
(a maximum of $1800). Transportation to Princeton can
be arranged. For information call Carol at 1-800-770-9299.
