NAMI NJ Program Training in 2018

Fall 2018 NAMI NJ Support, Education and Speaker Training Announcement

The Programs

NAMI has a number of programs which are standardized through training and practices, so that wherever given in the United States, they will have similar outcomes. The programs include:

NAMI Family Support Group, a support group model where people dealing with mental health issues in a family member/loved one assist each other
• NAMI Connection, a support group model where people dealing with mental health issues assist each other
In Our Own Voice (IOOV), a program where NAMI volunteers go into the community and make a live + video presentation about their recovery experience, in an effort to educate the community and reduce stigma.
NAMI Basics, a NAMI signature education program for parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses.

The Training Model

Volunteers for any of these four programs receive training as outlined on the registration page. Most volunteers who attend the full training for their respective programs are then certified to facilitate support groups or make presentations. Support group facilitators work with their local NAMI New Jersey affiliate or multicultural program, while In Our Own Voice is handled by NAMI New Jersey directly.

Applying for the Training

Each of these trainings is likely to fill up, so prompt registration is encouraged. Training application forms are listed below; we only accept online applications this year. The program coordinator for each course is also listed, and you may contact them with any questions. You are welcome to apply to be trained in any or all of the programs for which you qualify. Please note that because training seats are limited your selection will be based in part on where our local affiliates and multicultural programs need facilitators or other program needs. These are “first-time only” trainings. If you have been trained in a program model and feel that you need a refresher training, please contact the program coordinator.
