STATE REVENUES AHEAD OF PROJECTION Unexpectedly robust state tax returns for the first four months of the budget year prompted a New York credit rating agency yesterday to boost its outlook on the state's long-term finances. Total revenue for July through October ran $296 million, or 4.4 percent, ahead of the $6.8 billion projection for the period that was included in the state budget. About two-thirds of that came from corporate tax returns, which were $193 million, or 50 percent, ahead of projections. Read the Star Ledger report:

STATE OFFERS DOLLAR-A-DAY CAR INSURANCE FOR MEDICAID RECIPIENTS Nearly half of the state's 600,000 uninsured drivers now have the option of buying an auto-insurance policy that covers emergency room treatment and other health-care costs for as little as a dollar a day. The policy is available only to those drivers who are eligible for federal Medicaid -- a potential pool of 255,000 New Jersey drivers. The state Department of Banking and Insurance approved forms for the policy Oct. 1 and has been testing it on a trial basis for several weeks. To find out more:
