FAMILIES OF HAGEDORN PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL RESIDENTS WORRY ABOUT FUTURE CARE IF LEBANON FACILITY CLOSES

Sen. G.W. Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital in Lebanon Twp., NJ might get closed by the state to save money. Many are opposed. The campus is located on what some say is prime real estate.

LEBANON TOWNSHIP -- They are the voices of the ones who can't speak for themselves. And they want to scream from atop the scenic hill where Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital sits.

"I'm so afraid about what's going to happen to my sister if she can't be at Hagedorn anymore," said Mary Zdanowicz.

PROTESTERS WHO OPPOSE CLOSING HAGEDORN PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL GATHER ALONG ROUTE 31 IN LEBANON TOWNSHIP

As many as 100 people gathered this morning along Route 31 in Lebanon Township to protest New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's plan to close the Senator Garrett W. Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital as part of his sweeping budget cuts. Speakers included representatives of the hospital workers' unions; Ed Smith, of state Sen. Mike Doherty's office, and Kevin Codey, son of state Sen. Richard Codey.

MENTALLY ILL MAN DIES AFTER SCUFFLE OVER 'LOITERING'

Keith Briscoe started his days with a Newport and a Pepsi. Three days a week, his mother gave him a pack and some cash, and Briscoe, who had schizophrenia, trudged to a Wawa store on Cross Keys Road in Berlin to buy a soda. Then, Briscoe, 36, would walk back to nearby Steininger Behavioral Care Services for treatment. It was his morning routine for the last three years.On Monday, Winslow Officer Sean Richards saw Briscoe loitering outside the Wawa before 8:30 a.m. and asked him to leave, but Briscoe refused, authorities said. A struggle with officers and bystanders ended in Briscoe's death.

ASTRAZENECA FINED $520 MILLION TO RESOLVE ILLEGAL MARKETING OF SCHIZOPHRENIA DRUG

AstraZeneca agreed to pay $520 million to resolve U.S. allegations that it illegally marketed the schizophrenia drug Seroquel for uses that weren't approved by regulators. AstraZeneca promoted unapproved uses by influencing the content of company-sponsored medical education programs, according to the Justice Department. The company promoted the drug for use in the elderly and children. The government's investigation was triggered by a whistleblower lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania, according to the Justice Department

Seroquel is approved by U.S. regulators for use in treating adults and adolescents with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia and as an add-on therapy for adults taking antidepressants.
