ADVOCACY NEWS FROM NAMI NEW JERSEY:

IOC BILL SAILS THROUGH SENATE 38-0

S1093 the bill that would establish involuntary outpatient commitment was unanimously approved today in the New Jersey Senate 38-0. Under this legislation, individuals who meet the clarified standard for commitment would be assigned by a judge? order to the level of care that best meets their needs rather than only being eligible for inpatient commitment to a state or county psychiatric hospital, the lone current alternative.

The bill (A2304) now moves to the State Assembly where it has been assigned to the Human Services Committee. Assemblyman Sean Kean has joined Assemblyman John McKeon as a prime sponsor.
