ADVOCACY NEEDED NOW!!!
**************
TIME IS SHORT NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!!
Senators Richard Codey and Michael Doherty have introduced legislation calling for Sen. W. Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital to remain open.
The hospital, according to the bill, should remain open at least until a task force determines the state's long-term needs for in-patient psychiatric beds and how displacing patients would impact the state. Codey, a Democrat, and Doherty, a Republican, said the cuts that, as of today, will close Hagedorn, were made too quickly. The state's history of attempts to downsize its mental health system demonstrates the need for caution if we are to prevent the dangerous mistakes of the past.
ACT NOW
Contact your state legislator and ask them to join Senators Doherty, Codey and Assemblymen Diegnan and Ramos to support the establishment of a State Mental Health Facilities Evaluation Task Force to determine the state's long-term needs for in-patient psychiatric beds prior to closing a state psychiatric hospital. FAILING TO PLAN IS PLANNING TO FAIL!
