LANCE PROMOTES MENTAL HEALTH BILL
Congressman Leonard Lance (R-7th Dist.) visited Carrier Clinic recently to announce the introduction of legislation improving the nation’s mental health care services. Lance promoted his Expand Excellence in Mental Health Act (H.R. 4567), which both boosts access to, and strengthens, community mental health and behavioral health services across the country.
NEW HOUSING GUIDE FOR THE DISABILITY COMMUNITY
“The Journey to Community Housing with Supports: A Road Map for Individuals and Their Families” provides easy-to-understand information, advice and guidance about community housing and supportive services. This housing guide was designed specifically for individuals with disabilities and their families with a concentration on those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
CHRISTIE ANNOUNCES NEW STATEWIDE HOUSING FIRST INITIATIVE
Governor Christie today announced the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) will issue 500 State Rental Assistance Program (SRAP) vouchers through a new statewide Housing First program. The vouchers will be available to chronically homeless individuals and/or families who are high utilizers of public systems. An RFP will be issued to identify local partnerships that will serve as incubators for best practices in housing and services for a variety of vulnerable populations.
CHRISTIE ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH HOMES
Governor Chris Christie announced the expansion of the behavioral health home model, a healthcare hub, that treats physical health, mental health and addiction disorders with an integrated approach. A Behavioral Health Home is an outpatient service that allows participants to have all of their health care needs identified, addressed, and treated in a coordinated way. The same team of clinicians and practitioners either deliver, or coordinate the delivery of, all the necessary medical, behavioral, and social supports required for the individual.

Hear New Jersey Senator and former Governor Richard J. Codey, a longtime advocate for mental illness; speak on April 26, 2016 at the Union County affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The program begins at 7:30 pm at the American Legion Post, 1003 North Ave., Westfield, New Jersey.
